Yesterday, my pretty girl Jessie had an appointment in Hawley, the next town over, for a shampoo and grooming.
While waiting for the deed to be done, I noticed there was a small farmers’ market in the park across the street and thought “why not”, with little enthusiasm and low expectations. Still, I knew that “Jessie Jane” was going to have a ball with those groomers and that it would take time, so I crossed the street.
What a pleasant surprise! The market was small but the produce was lovely, the farmers loquacious and friendly. It was almost like, dare I, France 🙂 I’m going back every Friday! Look at this lettuce!
Honestly Jesse is prettier than the lettuce, but so glad you found the market! Is Hawley closer than Scranton??
Hi Laura. Hawley is about 10 miles away, well within my driving limits 🙂
Ha ha – I bet you couldn’t resist. I have been to farmers’ markets around Atlanta which are astonishingly good. One of them was in an old railway goods yard and the platforms lent themselves to displaying vegetables, as one walked around where the tracks had been.
I’ve never been but everything I hear about Atlanta sounds interesting.
The food’s good, but there’s not much of a town center. Most of downtown is business and very little in the way of shops.
Too bad, I like welcoming town centers.
Me too, but most of Georgia got burnt several times over during the civil war. If I remember correctly, Atlanta burnt 3 times!
I really liked visiting the north, because most small towns have survived several centuries, more or less intact, though I did find one or two cool old towns in Georgia.
Damn Yankees!
Ha ha – well it certainly made me appreciate the architecture in the north 😉
Almost like France but can’t be as good:)
Doggie looks lovely.
Thank you Nadia.
Your doggie looks lovely, not sure my loopy Weimaraners would appreciate the attention! Back in France our neighbours keep banging on about ‘les radis’, what do you do with yours besides throwing them in a salad? 🙂
Eat them with your apertif before a meal, smeared with butter and accompanied by a crusty baguette.
Fried in butter then?
Oh no! Raw.
Ok….at least I won’t embarrass myself anymore!
Glad you finally found a convenient market! We’re super spoiled by the ones here. One of the only things KY has ever done right was to use the tobacco settlement money to help farmers and promote markets.
Kentucky doesn’t sound bad! Had a good friend from there.
Glad you found a good market but awwwww…..Jessie, gorgeous!
Thank you Chica 🙂
Great that you found somewhere with ‘real’ food. It’s always a pleasure.
I had all but given up, Conor. From now on, Friday’s will be market day 🙂
That produce looks gorgeous, great find! And cute dog too 🙂
Thank you Mary Frances.
Glad you found a farmer’s market with fresh produce. Every Saturday, we drive 12 miles south to one for heirloom tomatoes.
Hi Karen. Yes, they also had beautiful heirloom tomatoes but the uninteresting tomatoes in the fridge have to be used first.
😀
