We had 4 really juicy pears and one apple in the fruit bowl. Yes, we could have bought more apples but we liked the idea of that little taste of apple among the pears. Look at the swankiness of those pears!
I like doing crumbles because they are not fiddly nor super sweet. They are desserts that even non enthusiasts can love and they take very little time to prepare.
Great nursery food Roger 🙂
Pear and Apple Crumble
4 pears, peeled and coarsely diced
1 apple, peeled and coarsely diced
2 tbsp water
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup flour
3 tbsp + 1 tsp brown sugar
1/2 cup pecans, coarsely chopped
4 tbsp cold butter
Combine the pears, apple, water and sugar in a pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes. Divide equally into 4 mini casseroles.
Mix the flour, brown sugar and pecans together. Cut in the cold butter with 2 knives until it forms a coarse meal, then sprinkle on top of the fruit.
Bake for 20 minutes in a 375 degree oven. Serve with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
I love a good crumble, its such a classic. I’m making a crumble for tomorrow night and, after seeing this, I think I’ll definitely be added some chopped nuts to the topping. It’s such a great idea to add pecans and pears to elevate the crumble to something even more delicious and that bit more special.
Thank you.
How frugal, sort of like a banana bread in that it uses up left over fruit. They do look delicious, Rosemary.
Yes, but you’ll want very firm fruit for this. You can make banana bread with mushy bananas 🙁 Bleah!
Hmmm, that is true… I shall have to find something suitable for slightly soft pears…
Baby food? 🙂 🙂
Crumbles or crisps as they are known in New England as so popular. Looks great, Rosemary.
Thank you Karen
Love the individual servings.
I’m sort of into individual servings since I’ve just been cooking for two.
Looks great! I really like the pecan half in the middle of the crumble. It’s such a nice touch.
Thank you Tessa, I couldn’t resist 🙂
Yes, vanilla ice cream is desired, right here! I sooo want one of these.
They are so easy to make! I’m trying to get my son to try them.
Love apple or pear crumble, i like it really hot with the really cold icecream in the same mouthfull! YUM. I do not have pears in my bowl but I do have apples! c
Apple crumble then c!
Mouthwatering!
Thank you Anastasia.
Yummy. Crumbles are one of my favorite dessert and I like the idea of combining pears and apples (and of using what you have on hand, of course).
I can do with one of these right now!
Yes you can!
This looks wonderful and fabulous photos!
thank you
I just told Bangers and Mash how much I love Apple Crumble… and now this delightful recipe! Yumm! Can’t wait to make this one too. And as always, love your pictures. 🙂
Thank you. Who’s Bangers and Mash?
You are sowelcome! Bangers and Mash is a gal from Ireland, a WordPress food blog.
Why have only 1 fruit? These two look delicious in this gorgeous crumble 😀
