Jade had a friend for a sleepover last night. I had some steaks in the refrigerator so I decided to go with that and a salad. When I asked the tiny, young lady how she wanted her steak, she replied, “bloody” and I knew I’d better do a little thinking about lunch the next day.
They ate a pretty substantial breakfast prepared by Jade; several slices of toasted brioche, leftover steak with eggs, fruit salad and juice, so I figured they would last until I could prepare some spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread.
I know that I’m sort of a food snob but my snobbery doesn’t extend to sneering at everything that isn’t homemade. If I find good quality prepared food items, I’ll certainly take advantage. I removed some uncooked, pre-formed and seasoned meatballs from the freezer that I bought at Leclerc’s for just an occasion like today. If you’d like to make your own http://atomic-temporary-17826715.wpcomstaging.com/2010/12/07/spaghettoni-and-meatballs/.
Spaghetti Sauce
1 small onion chopped
3-4 large cloves of garlic minced
1/3 cup olive oil
2 28 ounce cans of crushed tomatoes
2 basil leaves
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 cup of red wine
Salt and pepper to taste
Saute the onion and garlic in the oil until soft but not brown. Add the tomatoes, basil, oregano, sugar, wine and salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer for at least 2 hours. Low, low flame.
Your pictures look great. Lots of light.
Thank you.
Formidable child. “Bloody.” After my own heart, that one.
Mine too Susan.
perfect. a lovely lunch.. c
I use a bit of sugar in my sauce, which certain members of my family have expressed disappointment at. What can I say, we take our sauce seriously. Both meals look bloody good to me!
My mother said that the sugar cuts the acidity of the tomatoes. I believe that’s true.
I agree: sometimes some prepared foods are very, very good. Why not take advantage of them! When I was living in Paris, a chef friend of mine clued me in to everyone’s dirty little secret: Picard’s produits surgelés!
I make no secret of Picard. They have quality frozen items and we are lucky to have one here in town! Check out my fried quail. I purchased the quail at Picard, along with numerous other vegetables, fruit and fish.
That is the most beautiful photo of spaghetti and meatballs that I’ve ever seen!
Thank you Sandra/Kathy.
I’m glad you adhere to a good cooking time – it’s necessary. This looks wonderful, the colour is simply delightful. I did something similar a while ago – I think I should do it again 😀
Do it again Frugal.
Lovely shot! That spaghetti looks scrumptious. Just like what I’m craving for dinner.
Thank you Russell
Both plates look delicious!
Thank you. I had a hard time choosing which to lead with 🙂
the spaghetti and meatballs looks delish but honestly that breakfast plate is the winner for me, it has everything I love
