I woke up this morning with a noodle craving and decided to look around the internet. This recipe is inspired by Jen, a wonderful cook and photographer at Tastes of Home http://tastesofhome.blogspot.com/2009/05/noodles-with-spicy-ground-pork-recipe.html. I used ground veal instead of pork because that’s what I had on hand and I like ground veal. Actually, I fiddled with the recipe quite a bit, so if you would like to see the original, use the link above.
I served the noodles with pickled zucchini and quail eggs. I like fresh quail eggs because they taste good and are cute. They also look fantastic when they are colored for Easter.
Spicy Asian Ground Veal Noodles
4 spring onions, chopped
3 garlic cloves, chopped
2 shallots, chopped
1 inch piece of fresh ginger, chopped
1 mild red chilli
2 tbsp peanut oil
1 tsp sesame oil
1 lb ground veal
3 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp 5 spice powder
2 tsp sugar
1 tbsp sake
1 package of Asian noodles, cooked and rinsed in cold water
Saute the onions, garlic, shallots, ginger and chilli in the oils until soft. Add the ground veal and cook for about 2 minutes. Add the soy sauce, 5 spice powder, sugar, sake and cook for about 6 minutes. Add the noodles and toss to warm. Serve immediately.
I could definitely eat this for lunch right now. 🙂
Bon appetit! 🙂

Looks delicious. I need to try quail eggs at home one of these days, have only had them out.
I don’t know if you’ve had them canned or fresh. I’ve had both and I would say definitely go for the fresh.
feeling hungry reading this post, the photos are great. I’ll try serving noodles with quail eggs, sounds like a perfect combination.
